Nest boxes ready for the next season

There are now over 60 nest boxes, a mix of woodcrete and wooden boxes, in our woodland which is comprised of Oak, blackthorn and hazel. They have been used by Blue Tits, Great tits, Nuthatches and Pied Flycatchers. We monitor the boxes during the breeding season to identify First egg dates (FED) which when compared between years can help us track effects of climate change and also we monitor to identify the breeding success of each of these species.

Nant Bran Woodland Update

Great News -a very generous donor has offered to buy Nant Bran Wood outright, and place it in trust for long term research and conservation. The purchase is currently in progress (solicitors instructed)! As a result, all monies pledged on the original crowdfunding site will no longer be collected (no need to cancel the payments, we just won’t receive them) -but we’d still be very grateful if you would be willing to support the set up of the long-term research projects, and the initial conservation work. To do this, you’ll need transfer your donations into the following Just-Giving fund: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Welsh-Rainforest

Help Eco-explore to purchase and protect a piece of Welsh rainforest!

Join with Eco-explore in purchasing and protecting 12 acres of beautiful Welsh oak woodland, as a study site for today’s research into the impacts of climate change on woodland ecosystems, and for the benefit of future generations. The wood will be used for long-term monitoring scientific research into the ecological impacts of climate change on woodland ecosystems -the focus of several PhD- and Masters-level research projects based at Cardiff University in collaboration with Eco-explore. The project crowdfunding page is here -thank you for your support! http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/welsh-rainforest-reserve
